You’ve landed here because you’re wondering whether WIX is the right platform for your website.
Yay - congrats already, because you’re asking exactly the right question!
As a professional WIX web designer, I’ve helped many clients launch their own websites over the past few years - and along the way, I’ve gathered a ton of WIX experiences myself.
My journey has taken me from a complete beginner to a professional designer - and in this article, I want to share exactly what I’ve learned with you.
Here’s what you’ll find in this post:
my personal WIX review, from my very first website to today,
my professional conclusion after more than 5 years,
plus real client stories and testimonials so you can see what working with WIX is really like.
This post was written in collaboration with WIX. I use the platform in many of my client projects and share my honest opinion and day-to-day experiences as a web designer.
WIX review vs. other website builders
When you start researching how to create your website, you’ll quickly come across systems like WordPress, Squarespace, Jimdo, or Webflow.
Each platform has its strengths, but my heart clearly belongs to WIX - for three simple reasons:
Simplicity: From my very first try (back when I had just started my side business), I was able to create a functioning website without any prior knowledge. WIX has an intuitive interface with a clean, well-structured dashboard. You’ll quickly find your way around — even if you’ve never built a website before.
Flexibility: Unlike many other builders, you can freely customize your designs. You can accept payments, set up a blog, or even add integrated booking systems.
All-in-one: Hosting, technical updates, security, and email all run automatically in the background — so you don’t have to worry about a thing.
My first experiences with WIX
Before I ever thought about becoming a web designer, I started my own small business in 2020 — a bachelorette party planning agency. I wanted to get my foot in the wedding industry, but without offering the same things as everyone else.
So I focused on something no one else was doing: planning bachelorette weekends.
Turns out — it was more stressful than fun and not very profitable. But that’s a story for another day.
To get my event agency online, I decided to use WIX in 2020. And now, more than 2 million Google impressions later, I haven’t regretted that decision for a single day. As a complete beginner who had never designed a website before, I was able to create a professional-looking site on my own:

Admittedly, it’s a little cringe to share this now - white text on a pink background?
Definitely not my choice today 😅. And don’t get me started on those stock photos!
But here’s what matters: It was a great tool back then when I was just starting out. And it hasn't let me down through numerous relaunches to this day (you can see what the site looks like now here).
In the meantime, I have slowly but steadily expanded my blog and because the prejudice that WIX is no good for SEO still persists - WIX has definitely not disappointed in this regard:

My professional conclusion after 5 years
Today, after many projects and more than 20 client websites, WIX is no longer just a tool for me - it’s the platform I rely on every day. Not only for my own business but also for my clients’.
Here’s why:
Reliability: No constant updates that need manual installation. I never have to worry about whether my contact form submissions actually arrive in my inbox.
Ease of use: My clients can easily manage their websites after handover — without constantly needing my help. Updating a picture or adding text takes just a few clicks.
Exactly what self-employed people need: WIX includes all the features you need for a professional online presence — but without unnecessary complexity that only slows you down.
What My Clients Say About WIX
To give you more than just my perspective, here are a few voices from real client projects:
Joana Greimers – Journalist & Hair & Make-up Artist
“I chose WIX in 2018 when I started my business because, after lots of research, it offered the best value for money. Thanks to the easy drag-and-drop system, I built my site completely by myself in just four days! What I still love most is how simple the editor is. You always see exactly what you’re changing thanks to the live preview. When I rebranded in late 2024, I decided to stick with WIX because I like having full control and flexibility to make my own changes. WIX keeps evolving and adding new features like multilingual websites, SEO tools, and AI assistance — and together with Marie’s expertise, it’s the perfect match. My clients often tell me how beautiful my site looks — they can’t believe I built it myself! I recommend WIX again and again.”
When WIX Might Not Be the Right Fit
Let’s be fair — WIX isn’t for everyone.
If you want to build a large online shop with hundreds of products, inventory management, or international markets, Shopify is the better choice.
If you plan to integrate lots of third-party tools (like WooCommerce, external booking systems, or complex CRM solutions), then WIX might also not be the best fit.
But for most freelancers, creatives, and service providers, WIX is exactly the right tool to move their business forward.

My final thoughts on my WIX review
Don’t choose a system because “everyone else” uses it. Choose the one that actually helps you reach your goals!
If you’re still unsure which platform is best for you, book a free discovery call with me. We’ll look at your goals together and figure out which system supports you best — and if that turns out to be Shopify or WordPress, I’ll tell you that honestly, too. Pinky promise!
